An amazing clean-up operation has given a Middlesbrough back alley a new lease of life - with the council warning that those tempted to fly-tip will be found and fined.

The alley behind Kensington Road had become a magnet for fly-tippers and selfish residents, with household waste and dumped furniture strewn along its length.

The Council’s Environmental Wardens and fly-tipping Flying Squad operatives were called in on Wednesday (April 12), with a three-strong team clearing waste weighing in at a staggering 2,180kg.

An investigation is now under way using CCTV and other means to track down those responsible, and Council chiefs have renewed their warning that those caught face hefty fines.

Dale Metcalfe, Middlesbrough Council’s Operational Community Safety Manager, said:

Our back alleys are a communal resource that residents value, but the actions of a few inconsiderate individuals can turn them into virtual no-go areas.

We won’t tolerate that, so we urge residents to report issues as they arise and we’ll deal with them.

This was an absolutely fantastic bit of work by all involved in clearing this alley, and I know all law-abiding members of the community will be delighted.”

Anyone with information on fly-tipping can send details to evidence@middlesbrough.gov.uk or call the Contact Centre on 01642 726001.
