Middlesbrough Football club are offering support and equipment to Northern League side Thornaby FC, after their ground was damaged by fire on Monday, believed to be an arson attack.

A Facebook post from Thornaby FC on Monday read;

"As a Club we are devastated.

"As a community we have to come together.

"As a society this cannot be acceptable.

"5:30am this morning we received a phone call from the police that Teesdale Park had been attacked by arsonists.

"5 Fire engines attend the blaze from 3:40am to 6:30am. Thanks for their efforts.

"Not sure where we go from here. Not sure what’s next. Not sure what the future holds."

Now Middlesbrough are showing their support, sharing the club's fundraising page on their website and social media.

According to the Middlesbrough FC post, the offices, goalposts, clubhouse and picnic area at the Teesdale Park ground have all been damaged by the fire, and club chief executive Trevor Wing estimates the blaze caused £130,000 worth of damage to the home of the EBAC Northern League club.

The club were due to kick off their pre-season campaign against Darlington United on Saturday, and MFC are supplying a set of roll-on goals so the club can start to play matches in the short term.

They say they will also be donating money to the fundraiser, and items for more fundraising efforts.

You can find Thornaby's Go Fund Me page here. So far it has raised over £8500.
