A Stockton Mum has told TFM that she will refuse to leave her house over the bedroom tax.

53 year old Julie Young has lived on the Tilery Estate in Stockton for more than ten years. She's been in the spotlight over the past few weeks on Channel 4's Benefits Street and now faces the dreaded bedroom tax on the home she’s raised five children in.

Viewers saw emotional scenes on the last episode when her 15 year old son Reagan, who was severely disabled, died.

Julie will now face a reduction in benefits and tax on the rooms previously used for her son.

Julie told TFM:

"I'm not leaving. Now that Reagan's passed away I’ve got two spare bedrooms… the council are compassionate but not for very long because then I’ll have to pay. If I can’t pay then I have to leave the home with all the memories of Reagan"

A spokesperson for Stockton Council said:

“**If the claimant is in receipt of housing benefit and a member of the family in that household dies, then their benefit can continue to be assessed on the eligible rent which applied immediately prior to the death. This protection is for 12 months.”

The mum of five has now set up a charity called Reagan Jack Rainbows to raise money for any child and their parents who are facing an uncertain future.

The page has reached over ÂŁ8000 so far, after a major boost when the last episode aired.

People from right across the country have left heart felt messages.

Claire posted:

“Julie you are an amazing and inspirational woman. It's lovely to see your friends and neighbours support you. Unfortunately there aren't many estates around like it anymore. I sat in tears watching your loss the other night there are no words for you. Much love xx”
