Police appeal for witnesses following a serious collision in County Durham

Two teenagers have been left with serious injuries after the stolen motorbike they were riding collided with a car in Ferryhill.

The boys were thrown from the Lifan motorbike following the incident in Broom Road, Ferryhill, at around 10pm on Saturday night (January 29).

The 16-year-old driver suffered a broken femur while the 13-year-old passenger broke a hip.

Both were taken to hospital and are currently under investigation for road offences.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was uninjured.

Local Neighbourhood Sgt Pete Newman said:

“These two teenagers put themselves at serious risk by riding this bike and unfortunately have been seriously injured as a result.

“We know young people can think they are invincible, but this incident shows they are not and we hope other youngsters in the area who are thinking of riding motorbikes, especially without helmets or other protective gear, know that they are putting themselves and others and in danger.

“It could have been a very different story for these two boys and they still face potential criminal charges as a result.”

The bike has been seized by officers and officers want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, especially those with dash cam footage.
