Online reporting for sexual offences has been introduced in Cleveland.

Using the Cleveland Police website, anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse or a sexual offence can now report it online.

Information regarding support services available to victims is also available on the website.

Throughout 2022, Cleveland Police received 2,593 reports of sexual abuse.

These reports are thoroughly investigated by specially trained officers, no matter when they took place. Victims can attend the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), which offers free support and practical help to anyone in Teesside who has experienced sexual violence and/or sexual abuse. Partner agencies such as ARCH Teesside also provide free support and help to anyone who has been affected by sexual abuse.

Superintendent Helen Barker, Force lead on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) said: “We’re opening up as many channels as possible for all victims of sexual abuse to come forward and report it to us, no matter how long has passed since the incident took place.

“Sexual abuse will not be tolerated and we would urge anyone to come forward and report it, whether that be by phone or online; everyone will be listened to and a thorough and full investigation will be carried out, with the appropriate support put in place for victims.”
