An officer was repeatedly punched and kicked in the face and is suffering from concussion after being assaulted whilst dealing with an incident on Westcroft Road in Grangetown yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 26th May).

A 22-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident and currently remains in custody.

Speaking of the incident, Chief Superintendent Chris Downes said:

No officer should go to work and end up being assaulted and injured when they put their life on the line every day to protect our communities.

This level of behaviour is disgraceful and will not be tolerated under any circumstances and the Force will look to bring anyone to justice who thinks it is acceptable to be violent or abusive to our staff.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who assisted our officer when he was injured. The majority of the individuals in our communities are kind and respectful towards officers and we are grateful for their assistance yesterday.”
