Former SSI workers are meeting with students from Teesside University's Law Clinic tonight.

The clinic was contacted by a number of former workers who were concerned about the lack of a consultation process when the site at Redcar closed.

The student-led advice service is aimed at workers who weren't part of a union while they worked at the firm.

Last week, Community Union won over ÂŁ6 million for their members in an employement tribunal.

Andy Perriman, Senior Lecturer in law, Teesside Law Clinic said: "Teesside Law Clinic at Teesside University was approached by a number of ex-employees from the former Steelworks formerly owned by SSI, as a result of a recent case heard in the employment tribunal.

"Teesside Law Clinic Students, with the assistance of PG Legal Ltd have been looking at the issues raised to see if it can offer assistance to those ex-employees who were not members of a recognised trade union.

"Whilst we are unable to go into any detail at the moment, we are meeting with a number of those affected to discuss their options with them and clarify some points of law."

A meeting is taking place at Redcar College at 5:30pm this evening, where initial discussions are to take place.

Former workers are invited.
