Motorists continue to flout parking rules close to the Riverside Stadium despite numerous repeated warnings.

Another 65 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) were issued to drivers during Middlesbrough FC's 2-1 win at home to Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Cars continue to be parked on grass verges, on single and double yellow lines and are inconsiderately blocking footpaths on roads surrounding the Riverside Stadium.

On Saturday, cars left illegally or dangerously were ticketed on Heath Road close to the stadium, and Horsfield Road and North Ormesby Road in the town centre close to France Street car park.

Problem parking has been an issue at Boro matches for a number of years.

Previously, drivers have dangerously left their cars on roundabouts and by slip roads and have caused damage to footpaths, drain covers and kerbstones.

Unfortunately, motorists have failed to heed a string of warnings.

At the first home game of the season against Millwall, 40 PCNs were issued for offences on Vulcan Street, Shepherdson Way and Priestman Street.

Dale Metcalfe, Operational Community Safety Manager for Middlesbrough Council, said:

"The Riverside Stadium has now been open for 25 years – and we thank the vast majority of fans who park safely and legally when attending matches.

“But unfortunately, some drivers continue to ignore regular and repeated reminders not to park dangerously and irresponsibly near the stadium and town centre on matchdays.

"We urge supporters to make use of one of Middlesbrough's many public car parks, or travel in on public transport.

"We do not want to fine people but will take action where necessary in the interests of public safety."
