The latest and hottest restaurant set to open its doors in Darlington is throwing its weight behind the town’s very own undefeated British Boxing Champion.

Babul’s, opening this Spring at 2 Skinnergate, has signed a sponsorship deal with local boxer, Troy Williamson, as he takes on 2022 to defend his title of British Super Welterweight Champion.

Brothers Shuhel and Zak Ahmed, also from Darlington, are bringing their unique and award-winning take on Indian casual dining along with showstopper cocktails into their newly refurbished venue in Skinnergate, previously Pizza Express.

The brothers have long admired Troy’s career and the pair are thrilled to support their local boxing champion; who also happens to be one of the best 154lb fighters in the world.

Shuhel Ahmed, owner of Babul’s said: “We’re huge fans of Troy, having seen him move up through the ranks. His determination to succeed is infectious which is why we’re thrilled to be able to support him in the ring.

“We know Troy will achieve even more great things and will continue to put Darlington firmly on the world stage and we’re right behind him as he takes this year’s season on.”

Troy says: “I love Babul’s and their modern concept of Indian food, it’s so good to have support from Shuhel and Zak, who like me have grown up in Darlington. We’re very much alike with our determination to succeed and I’m proud to represent them and our town. Bring it on 2022!”.

Troy, ranked #11 in the world with the IBF, #13 with the WBA and is the European IBF Champion, is gearing up this week as he returns to the ring at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Friday evening (25 March), he’s coming back confident and more determined than ever, aiming to be crowned world champion.

Babul’s is set to open its doors this Spring with its modern dining experience that combines Indian street food style dishes, vegan plates and homecooked favourites that pack a punch. Babul’s was crowned Indian Restaurant of the Year for the North East last year with the success of its Barnard Castle branch; and with its new Darlington restaurant the team are also set to lift the belt in local Indian cuisine.
