Support is growing for the Cook Islands men's rugby league World Cup team - ahead of their match at the Riverside Stadium

The team, who've been based at Rockliffe Hall in Darlington for training during the competition, are heading out into Middlesbrough, to meet school groups at the Captain Cook birthplace museum this afternoon.

They face Tonga at the 'Boro on Sunday.

A series of family friendly events will also be taking place at the museum today, to mark the 294th Birthday of Captain James Cook - including a cake cutting ceremony.

Captain Cook Trust members Martin Peagam and Robert Nichols will be leading short walking tours in the historic village of Marton.

Families can take part in a Cook Island inspired craft and make a flower crown or garland to wear as they welcome the players.

There is also the opportunity to write a birthday greeting or make a wish on seeded paper, which will later be planted to form a new flower bed outside of the museum.
