Concerns have been raised about nursing staffing levels at the accident and emergency units at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage in Northallerton.

Bosses at the South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have now been told to make sure they have enough nurses, and to ensure their training is kept up to date.

The Care Quality Commission report also found some problems with the end of life care at the hospital trust.

Professor Patricia Hart is the Chief Executive of South Tees Hospitals Trust said there were plenty of positives.

She told us there are though improvements to make: “They did find in some records not all the things documented as robustly as they should have been.

“We well ensure through continued work that our 9,000 employees will make sure that they have to document evidence clearly, every single time.”

Patricia added: “We know particularly from a nursing perspective that there is a national nursing shortage. Therefore it’s some our organisation is reviewing every week.”
