It's been confirmed England Lioness and Teesside Uni graduate Beth Mead will judge the fancy dress competition at Whitby's annual Boxing day big dip.

More than 250 people are expected to take part in the fundraising challenge this year by running into the sea.

Brian Harrison is from Whitby Lions and says they're over the moon the football star has agreed to come down: "Local legend, local lass and she always likes to help local causes where she can, we're over the moon to have her down there sort of thing and it'll be great for everyone to see her and she is a living legend isn't she."

Whitby Lions are hoping this year's event will be the biggest one yet: 'Our 2022 dip had a record-breaking response with over 230 dippers taking part and at least a thousand spectators supporting the event and joining in with the fun. As a result, the club directly raised over £3,000.00 to support their work helping local organisations and charities. The dippers themselves would have raised many thousands of pounds for various local and national charities. We hope for an equally successful event this year and we hope the local community comes out to support ourselves, our dippers and the many charities involved by donating to our bucket collection, keep an eye out for our festive street collectors.'
