Two armed robbers are on the run after an incident at a Chinese restaurant in Great Ayton. The heist took place at 7:50pm last night, at The Fortune Cookie on the high street.

The men both had Teesside accents and were carrying bladed weapons - they made off on foot with cash, but no one was harmed in the robbery - despite them threatening staff.

One suspect was described as large in build, wearing an olive green jacket and a blue scarf/snood around his face. His accomplice was described as smaller, wearing a blue and grey Adidas hoodie and a vampire mask.

Though North Yorkshire Police searched the area, and spoken to witnesses, the offenders still remain at large and have yet to be found.

Detective Sergeant Michele Fawcett said:

“Thankfully, no-one was injured, however the staff were terrified and have been left extremely shaken. This was a very serious incident and we are doing all we can to identify the offenders.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, saw anything suspicious in the area at the time or may have any dash cam footage that may assist, to contact police.

“If you think you might have seen the two men yesterday evening in the area, please also contact police. Any piece of information you can provide could assist this investigation.
