A woman has been charged with murder after an elderly man was found dead at a care home.

A woman has been cjharged with murder after an elderly man was found dead at a care home.

The 81-year-old was discovered in his room at the Sowerby House care home in Sowerby on Wednesday 11th February.

North Yorkshire Police say his death is unexplained, but they don’t believe the injuries he suffered were accidental.

The 53-year-old woman has no known connection to the care home.

Police say she was known to the man, and detectives are working to establish their relationship.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, said: “We ask that consideration is given to the residents and the families connected to the care home at this time. The home has not been closed, however, there are areas within the home which are still being examined.

“Specially trained police Family Liaison Officers have been deployed to support the deceased’s family.”
