Hundreds of fundraisers across Teesside are getting ready to spend the night sleeping on Middlesbrough's streets, all in the name of charity.

While most of us are cosying up for a warm night at home, 150 people are expected to take part in The Big Teesside Sleepout.

They'll be asked to swap their beds for sleeping bags and blankets as they prepare to spend night in the cold.

It's all designed to raise awareness and funds for the region's homeless and the charities who help them.

Money raised will be used to stock local food banks, support the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal and the Stockton-based Moses Project that puts on Christmas Day lunch for addicts, homeless and struggling families.

The event's been running for the past 5 years, and has raised over ÂŁ60,000 for local causes.

St Bedes Academy in Stockton are one of the teams taking part tonight, with 12 staff dedicating their time to fundraise.

Headteacher Bernadette Rizzi-Allan said: "We have a really great ethos at St Bedes that we care for people abroad and people here.

"We're wanting to support families in poverty and the homeless in Teesside.

"Especially with the bad news that's happening on Teesside at the moment, we just want to give a little bit of something back."
