Putting Saltburn On The Map
Staff at a Saltburn pub hope the filming of a new ITV drama there will put the town on the map. Andrea Cook works at the Ship Inn on Saltburn Road, which has been chosen as a set for 'Dark Angel', a two-part drama starring Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt.
It tells the story of Victorian poisoner Mary Ann Cotton.
Landlords Lisa and Ian Burton made the announcement on Facebook saying: "**We hope you all agree this is a fantastic opportunity not just for us but for saltburn as a whole."
It's a chance to showcase our beautiful surroundings and settings."
Although filming doesn't begin until September 8th, production crews have begun the work of transforming the outside area of the pub. The beer garden will remain closed during the filming, while the car park will be made into a seating area for visitors and food will be served as normal.
Andrea was working behind the bar when she was approached by ITV staff who said they would like to use the pub for some filming. She says it wasn't long until the production crew arrived to start putting the set together, with Andrea keeping watch from the rooms upstairs. Andrea can understand why they chose the Ship Inn: "It's a lovely pub. It's very old, a lot of history with it and it's right on the seafront.
You've got the the pier in the background, you've got the cliff in the background.
It's got lovely surroundings, Saltburn's a beautiful place."
