Former Darlington Bank to be Converted
It's the prominent Grade 2 listed building on Skinnergate.
Gregory Projects has secured planning approval to convert a prominent Grade 2 listed building on Skinnergate in Darlington town centre.
The developer plans to refurbish the building, previously occupied by Lloyds Bank, to provide new leisure space on the ground floor and basement with five one and two bedroom residential apartments on the upper levels.
Director, Richard Tovey said:
"The area is a busy and vibrant part of town at the start of the pedestrianised zone with a number of national restaurant operators already represented including Pizza Express, Joe Rigatoni and Uno Momento. The property will appeal to restaurant operators due to its double frontage at the junction of Skinnergate and Coniscliffe Road.”
Gregory plans to start work immediately to improve the interior of the building and provide additional glazing to the front façade. It will progress the residential apartments as phase two of the development.
Blacks Solicitors (Leeds) acted for Gregory Projects in the acquisition of the building and Smith Smalley Architects is appointed on the building design. Pudney Shuttleworth (Leeds) and Carver Commercial (Darlington) are the joint marketing agents.
