County Durham Man ‘OK’ After Nepal Earthquake

Nick Talbot, from County Durham, was on Mount Everest when an earthquake hit Nepal.

It caused an avalanche that left climbers stranded.

Nick who was climbing the mountain to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis UK is said to be ok, the charity posted this on their facebook page:

“As far as we’re aware, Nick Talbot is ok; but we’re saddened to learn of the death of his team member Daniel Fredinburg. Our thoughts are with Daniel’s family, and all those who have lost loved ones.”

Nepal’s mountaineering department said at least 17 people had been killed in the avalanche.

Jagged Globe, a travel firm, said in a statement: “It is with the greatest sorrow that we report the death of one of our Everest team members, Daniel Fredinburg.

“Two other team members have non-life threatening injuries, as a result of the avalanche that struck base camp during the earthquake and its aftershocks. They are being looked after in base camp.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family and friends whilst we pray too for all those who have lost their lives in one of the greatest tragedies ever to hit this Himalayan nation."
