Busy weekend for Cleveland Police

Incident involving van, Middlesbrough, Sunday Evening

Contrary to rumours circulating on social media, police would like to reassure residents that an incident earlier this evening is NOT terror related and that there is no risk to the wider public.

A van collided with a man riding a bicycle on Linthorpe Road at around 9.50pm. The 25 year old cyclist was not seriously injured and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in connection with an earlier report of a vehicle being damaged on Portman Street. The 32 year old van driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Both face questioning.

Incident on Vulcan Way, Thornaby on Saturday (21st October)

Police were called to reports of a disturbance between a group of men behind the Best One Shop on Vulcan Way, Thornaby at around 5.05pm yesterday (Saturday)

On arrival two men were found – one with a head injury and the second with a serious stab wound to his back.

Both men, who are in their 20s, remain in James Cook University Hospital and both are in a stable condition.

Inquiries into the incident are on-going and detectives from Stockton CID would like anyone with information to contact them at Cleveland Police to the 101 number. Police Activity Hartington Road, Stockton

Police are currently in and around the Hartington Road area of Stockton following reports that a man had suffered several stab wounds.

We were contacted by ambulance service colleagues at around 12.15pm today (Saturday 21st October) and on arrival a man was found to have suffered what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. It is believed the man may have been wounded elsewhere (at a currently unknown location), however inquiries are in their very early stages.

The man has been taken to James Cook University Hospital and officers remain in the area conducting inquiries. There is not believed to be any threat to the wider public at this stage and anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number.
