£1million Darlington conman to be sentenced today

A Darlington man who swindled money from elderly people across the North East will be sentenced today. Conman Kole Lulgjuraj took almost £1million from vulnerable pensioners across County Durham.

He was arrested in Darlington in 2012 but after being bailed he went on the run to the US. Police tracked him down to a bank in Indiana where he was working and brought Lulgjuraj back the UK earlier this summer.

Following the one time financial advisors arrest, Detective Constable Dave Wearmouth said:

"I am delighted that we have had this breakthrough.

"It goes to show that there is truly no hiding place for suspected criminals in today's digital world.

"It may take some time, but we will find you."

Today the 50-year-old one-time financial advisor from Montenegro will be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court for six counts of theft and one of fraud.
