As modern life takes hold of our lives it seems that some of the popular hobbies of days gone by are now a lot less popular than they were. Whether it's embroidery, astronomy, woodworking or coin collecting, all of these hobbies have found themselves becoming less and less common.

Research has found that working longer hours, having less disposable income and the social media distractions, have meant that fewer of us are able to take time out to enjoy traditional pastimes such as trainspotting, quilting and astrology. The study also found three quarters of those surveyed agreed hobbies bring them and their partner closer together, with half of those saying it as something to talk about.

Despite time issues, one in 10 questioned said they were keen to take up a new interest with their significant other, however they were worried it might be a bit on the unusual side. Unusual activities include wife carrying and husband dragging, egg tossing, gurning and and marbles.

Of those questioned for this survey some of the more unusual hobbies were found to be candle making, origami and even collecting Aston Villa football programmes.

Recently, Steph and Dom from Gogglebox decided to give husband dragging and wife carrying a go and you can see how they got on in the video below!
