Dying grandfather gets to meet his football heroes just 45 minutes before he dies
They stayed for 1.5 hours signing shirts and posing for photos.
A grandfather's dying wish was granted when he got to meet some of the Manchester United team less than an hour before he passed away.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer four years ago, Patrick 'Paddy' Lawler said he would like to meet some Manchester United players before he died. His granddaughter Kayleigh took it upon herself to make his wish come true and amazingly it did.
Taking to Facebook Kayleigh posted a photo on Sunday saying, "we asked him the other day if he would like to do anything before his time comes and he said to meet the team I've emailed the Mufc foundation but no reply yet!" sic
Quickly her status was shared over 1000 times and spotted by the cousin of Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard.
Just a few days later Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah paid Paddy a visit, staying with him for an hour and a half, signing shirts and posing for photos.
Kayleigh posted a photo of the footballers meeting with her grandfather on Facebook.
Just 45 minutes after the players left Paddy sadly died, but his widow Eunice said, "They were such nice young men to go to that trouble and it is a huge comfort to us to know he died happy."
Kayleigh has since said the players were "incredibly selfless".
