Investigations are underway into how a 60-year-old man and a toddler died in Skegness.

Reports suggest the man suffered a heart attack some time around Boxing Day, leaving his two-year-old son on his own.

Lincolnshire County Council have called it a tragic incident and say a social worker went to the property on Prince Alfred Avenue on the 2nd January, and called police when they didn't get an answer.

The pair were found on the 9th January.

Police say they're not treating the deaths as suspicious.

It's understood police have referred themselves to the IOPC while Lincolnshire County Council say they're awaiting the outcome of the coroners investigations and are supporting the family

A statement from Lincolnshire Police says: "Police were made aware of the deaths of a 60-year-old man and a two-year-old child at a property in Prince Alfred Avenue, Skegness, at around 3.25pm on Tuesday, 9 January.

“Investigations have been carried out and the deaths are not being treated as suspicious. The matter has been passed to the coroner’s office.

“We have initiated a review with partners to properly understand the chronology of these tragic events and until such a time as that review is completed it would be inappropriate to comment further. As part of standard procedures we have referred this matter to the IOPC as a result of a death or serious injury following police involvement.”
