Search remains underway for missing rower from capsized boat
A boat club has claimed responsibility for the boat and gave further detail
A rescue operation remains underway to try and find a missing person after their boat capsized on the River Thames.
Emergency services had been called to Sunbury Lock in Surrey early on Friday morning (October 11th).
At the time, it was believed that six people had been aboard the ship, with five people being rescued and one remaining missing.
However, a boat club near the area has since claimed responsibility for the boat and given more details about the incident that contradict initial reports.
In a statement, Weybridge Rowing Club insisted that five people had entered the water, not six.
"Further to earlier media reports Weybridge Rowing Club can confirm that yesterday, 11 October, a boat and its supporting coaching launch got into difficulty following an on water incident. The boat capsized near Sunbury at about 08:50 in the morning," the club wrote.
"As far as the club is aware, and contrary to media reports, 5 people entered the water, including the coach. We are thankful that 3 of the crew in the rowing craft, and the coach, have been treated at hospital, but distressingly one of our members is still unaccounted-for."
The club said that it is working closely with the emergency services to help in the rescue efforts, before adding that the club will be closed until further notice.
"We wish to thank all those who aided our crew, including bystanders, and are thankful for their continued efforts," they added.
"We are deeply saddened by this accident and our thoughts and best wishes go out to the friends and families of those affected. We are actively supporting all those affected."
