Woman dies in fatal Nottinghamshire house fire as investigation opens
An investigation has been opened by emergency services in the county
A woman in her 60s has died following a fatal house fire in the Nottinghamshire town of Sneinton.
Officers were first alerted to reports of a fire at a property on Ashworth Close in the town at 9:37 p.m. on Friday (June 7th).
Emergency services arrived on scene, with fire engines from nearby London Road and Arnold Fire Stations assisting to put the fire out.
The fire was quickly extinguished at the property, but firefighters discovered a woman in the property during their operation.
Despite their best efforts to resuscitate the woman, officers sadly pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
An investigation was launched by both Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.
Following their enquiries and the investigation's conclusion, the emergency services are not treating the fire as suspicious.
Speaking on the incident, Jonathan Holford from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We would like to pass our deepest condolences to the family, friends and everyone affected by this sad incident.
“We will be out in the local community in the coming days to offer reassurance to local residents, which will include free smoke alarm fittings."
He added that it was "imperative" that homes in Nottinghamshire have working smoke alarms in all areas of the house.
Holford finished by thanking the emergency services for their work in putting out the fire and carrying out the investigation.
