Sadiq Khan says he will "do all he can" to support Ukrainian refugees
His comments come on the second anniversary of Russia's invasion

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has pledged that he will "do all he can" in order to stand with Ukraine on the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Since the war began two years ago today (February 24th), some 8 million Ukrainians have been forced to flee the country, with around 200,000 Ukrainians making the UK their new home as the conflict goes on.
Many of the Ukrainian refugees have since settled into communities across the UK, with London having a particular concentration of those fleeing the war.
Now, two years on from Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Sadiq Khan has paid tribute to those continuing to fight to repel Russian aggression.
In a statement, Khan expressed his sympathy for Ukrainian citizens who have been displaced by the war, adding that the UK continues to stand tall with Ukraine.
"The people of Ukraine have been through unimaginable pain and suffering over the last two years because of Putin’s illegal invasion," he said.
“So many innocent lives have been needlessly taken away because of this ongoing war and, as we reach this horrendous second anniversary, my thoughts and prayers are with all those under attack, the millions who have had to flee their homes and everyone affected.
“Every day London stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. We will continue to stand side-by-side with you in the face of this barbaric oppression and I will do all I can to support and stand up for Ukrainians who have sought refuge in our city.”
Commemorations to mark the anniversary of the war will be held across the country, with the fountains in London's Trafalgar Square being lit up in blue and yellow in support of Ukraine.
As well as this, government buildings across the city will also be lit in the Ukrainian colours as a show of solidarity for the Ukrainian people.
Khan has also shown his support for Kyiv's effort to deter Russian attacks by donating cars that are non-compliant with the city's new ULEZ scheme to the Ukrainian frontline, providing a vital respite for humanitarian and medical supplies in the country.
