Officers investigating the disappearance of a missing York student are carrying out a search in the River Thames.

The search is being conducted on the river following a review of CCTV in the area that indicates that missing student Harvey Parker may have entered the water near the Golden Jubilee Bridge.

The 20-year-old from Lambeth in London was seen leaving Heaven Nightclub alone, by Charing Cross Railway Station in Westminster just after 2am on Friday (17 December).

Officers say that at this stage of the investigation there is nothing to suggest that there is any third party involvement.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucy O’Connor, from Central South Safeguarding Unit, said:

“We are doing all we can to find Harvey, and working closely with our colleagues in the Marine Policing Unit. We are keeping Harvey’s family fully informed of any developments; and the thoughts of my colleagues and I are with them at this distressing time. We would also ask that media avoid any speculation while the enquiry continues.”

Emily Smith, University of York student and Editor of The York Tab, has been appealing for Harvey's safe return.

She said:

"Even not knowing him myself personally, I know a lot of his friends and it's just really upsetting to hear and to see how his disappearance has really affected the entire University of York community.

"It's profoundly affected the university community. There is a huge amount of worry and sadness around for Harvey but also there is a little bit of hope and solidarity in that everyone is coming together and spreading the word in hope of getting him home"
