Transport officer seriously assaulted in incident at Preston railway station
Officers have confirmed a man in his 50s has already been arrested
A member of the British Transport Police has been seriously assaulted following an incident at Preston train station.
Officers from Lancashire Police confirmed that an attack had taken place at the train station and had left two people injured on Saturday evening (September 7th).
Following the incident, the entrance to the station on Fishergate was shut to passengers, who were instead diverted to separate entrances on nearby Butler Street.
The British Transport Police confirmed that one officer was seriously injured in the altercation, but is receiving medical treatment.
In a statement, the force said: "At approximately 9.30pm yesterday (7 September), a British Transport Police (BTP) officer was seriously assaulted while on duty at Preston railway station.
"His injuries are not life threatening. A member of rail staff also suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident."
As well as this, Superintendent Dave Rams from the British Transport Police confirmed that the incident was believed to be isolated, and that a man in his 50s had already been arrested and detained.
Enquiries into the incident are now ongoing, with an investigation into the altercation now taking place.
Those who were in the vicinity of the train station at the time of the attack are now being urged to get in touch with the force as soon as possible to help in the fast-paced investigation.
