Police officers taken to hospital after crash in north Manchester
An unmarked police car was struck by another vehicle in Blackley on Wednesday morning
Two police officers have been rushed to hospital following a crash involving their unmarked car in north Manchester.
At around 5:30am on Wednesday 29 May, emergency services were called to Rochdale Road, Blackley where the officers' car had been struck by another vehicle whilst it was performing a manouvere.
One officer was cut free from the car by firefighters and was taken to hospital along with another officer.
It's not yet clear whether any of the injuries sustained are serious.
Rochdale Road remained closed in both directions through Wednesday morning, with drivers urged to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 5.35am this morning (Wednesday, May 29), two fire engines from Blackley and Phillips Park, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two cars on Rochdale Road, Manchester. Crews arrived quickly and extricated one casualty from a vehicle.
"The casualty was then transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. Firefighters departed after approximately one hour and 40 minutes in attendance but a road closure remains in place.”
