A police officer has borrowed a child's bike from a "slightly stunned" schoolboy to chase after a suspect in Hampshire.

Officers were searching for a 47-year-old man when they decided they needed some pedal power and asked the boy if they could use his bike.

In a post on social media, police said an officer approached the boy and had the following brief conversation with him.

PC Taylor: "Please can I borrow your bike? I will return it to you."

Boy: "Erm.. yeah, okay then."

In a video, PC Taylor is seen peddling down the road on the small bike, while attempting to catch up with her suspect.

A man was arrested on suspicion of theft, burglary and shoplifting.

Hampshire Police called the boy a "little hero" and described it as a "truly brilliant joint-effort from everyone involved".
