Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford MBE has teamed up with Aldi for a new Christmas campaign.

He's backing the supermarket's promise to donate almost 2-million meals to vulnerable families over the festive period.

Earlier this week, Marcus received an MBE for his campaign work on child hunger.

With John Lewis as well as Marks and Spencers already releasing their Christmas adverts, it seems about time for Aldi to return Kevin the Carrot to our screens.

The heart-warming advert is a new take on the classic Christmas Carol, where the holiday loathing banana Ebanana Scrooge is seen stuck in his ways while everyone else gets stuck into the festive season.

The now iconic Kevin the Carrot plays The Spirit of Christmas appears to take Ebanana on a journey across some of Aldi's festive offerings, which reminds him of the joys of the festive season.

The footballer is makes an appearance in The Christmas Carrot as an animated radish going by the name of Marcus Rashishford. He is even sporting a tuxedo!

This years campaign has already had over 2m views on Twitter.

Aldi is working alongside Neighbourly - who link businesses to charitable organisations in local communities – to donate its excess food to local causes.

This is the sixth successive year that Aldi’s Christmas ad campaign has featured Kevin the Carrot, with last year’s ad campaign racking up over 5 million views online.

Aldi UK marketing director Sean McGinty said: "Christmas is a time for hope, and we're privileged to be working with Marcus, who is one of the most inspirational young people in the UK, having done so much in the past 18 months to help provide free school meals for children.

"At the same time, it wouldn't be the festive season without Kevin the Carrot on our TV screens, and we're thrilled to be bringing him back for the sixth year for his many fans, in what we think is his best Yuletide performance yet."

"I'm trying to give children the things I didn't have when I was kid"

After being awarded his MBE on Tuesday, the England footballer said: "It seems like there's a lot going on but for me to put it in the simplest way - I'm trying to give children the things I didn't have when I was kid. If I did have, I would have been much better off and had many more options in my life.

"I'm just giving them the opportunity and I think they deserve the opportunity what child doesn't. For me it's a punishment for them not to be getting things like meals or supplies of books.

"And if we can all come together to make these small change - they are small changes but they become big changes once you see the rewards of it - I see a generation that's coming after me as a very special generation. They just need a bit of guidance and pointing in the right direction and what I'm doing is giving them that."
