A man has died following a light aircraft crash in Chesterfield, according to Derbyshire Police.
People are being urged to avoid the area in Chesterfield this morning.
On social media, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: "Emergency services are currently dealing with a light aircraft that has come down on Sheepbridge Lane in .Chesterfield
"3 fire crews are in attendance, and so are Derbyshire Police and the Ambulance Service.
"Please avoid the area."
Derbyshire Police offered an update a short time after, saying that the pilot in the aircraft died in the crash.
The plane's understood to be an Evektor SportStar and took off from Coal Aston airfield just before 8 o'clock this morning.
Flight data shows it travelling over Apperknowle and Old Whittington before coming down in Sheepbridge.
In a statement, the Air Accident Investigation Branch told us: "The AAIB have been notified of an accident to a Evektor SportStar, that occurred at approximately 0900 hrs, on 01 September 2024, at Sheepbridge, Chesterfield.
"Inspectors from the Air Accident Investigation Branch have been deployed to the scene to commence an investigation."
The East Midlands Ambulance Service told us: "At 09:08 we received an emergency call to an address in Chesterfield. The caller reported a light aircraft had come down.
"We sent our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), three ambulance cars and an ambulance.
"Our first ambulance car arrived on the scene at 09:18.
"Currently, working alongside Derbyshire Fire and Rescue and Derbyshire Constabulary, ambulance crews continue to provide support at the scene. We have not taken any patients to hospital."
