The Metropolitan Police have opened a murder investigation after a man was fatally shot in the London borough of Lambeth.

Officers received reports of a man requiring immediate treatment at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning (May 11th).

Medical staff at a local hospital also called police to assist after he was dropped off in the emergency department in a private car.

Following this, emergency medical staff did their best to treat him but he was eventually pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 a.m.

It is currently believed that the victim, who was a man in his 20s, was shot on the Westbury Estate on St Rule Street. A police cordon remains in place at the scene.

Officers have yet to arrest any potential suspects, but have appealed to the public for help in tracking down who was responsible.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, from the Met Police's Specialist Crime Unit paid tribute to the victim, whose life was "tragically cut short".

"A young man has lost his life and his family desperately want answers. My officers and I are working to bring them the justice they deserve and your information could be a critical part of our investigation," he said.

"If you were in the area around the time of this incident, or have doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage that may have captured events, please get in touch with police at the earliest opportunity. If you want to remain anonymous you can share what you know via the independent charity Crimestoppers."

As well as this, Thorpe added that there will be an increased police presence in the area of the crime over the next few days to reassure the public of their safety.

Anyone who may have any information is being urged to get in touch as soon as possible by contacting 101 and quoting incident reference number on 884/11May.
