There has been an outpouring of support for the Princess of Wales following her cancer diagnosis revelation.

In a video message shared on Kensington Palace's Twitter account, Kate revealed that after having abdominal surgery earlier in the year, doctors discovered cancer in routine tests and was now in the early stages of chemotherapy.

Kate spoke of the "huge shock" that she experienced upon learning she had the disease, adding that it had been an "incredibly tough couple of months" for her and her family.

Following the statement, which saw Kate hold back tears as she shared her diagnosis, several senior royals paid tribute to the Princess of Wales, including King Charles, who himself is being affected by cancer.

Charles is said to be "proud" of his daughter-in-law for her "courage" in being open about her medical condition, and has been in regular contact over the past few weeks.

As well as this, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also expressed their sympathy with Kate, saying: "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace."

No specific form of cancer was mentioned in the royal's statement, but Kate revealed that the she was having "preventative chemotherapy" in late February.

She is also said to be in good spirits and maintaining a positive mental attitude throughout the experience, admitting she is "well and getting stronger every day".

Politicians from across the political spectrum have offered their well wishes to the future Queen, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak criticising the "intense scrutiny" from sceptics.

Following the release of the statement, the hashtags "#WeLoveYouCatherine" and "#GetWellSoonCatherine" began trending on Twitter, as well-wishers from across the world paid tribute to William and Kate.

Kate's brother James posted a message of encouragement for his sibling on Instagram: "Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too," ending with a mountain and heart emoji.

At the end of the statement, Kate appealed for privacy so that she can undergo the remainder of her treatment in peace. William will continue to make public appearances whilst continuing to support Kate.
