Inverclyde's 87% turnout returned quite a remarkable result, as the No campaign won by only 86 votes.

54,601 people of 62,473 voters had their say in the region, in what proves to be another excellent turnout in the country, but no one could have expected just how close it would be.

There was an air of nervousness around the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Greenock, with supporters of both camps surrounding the counters trying to get a peek at how the result would potentially go.

In the end, no one could quite believe it as No squeaked past the post with a 50.08% share of the vote, with 27,329 votes to 27,243 votes for Yes.

Indeed, it was quite the staggering result.
