East Ayrshire declared a No vote at five o’clock this morning in the Galleon Centre.

East Ayrshire is the 16th largest local authority and had a turn out of 84.5% with 84,626 voters turning up out of an electorate of 99,662.

Out of them 39,762 voted yes and 44442 voted no. Meaning East Ayrshire voted no with a majority of 53%.

The ballots had been arriving at the Galleon Centre in Kilmarnock since 10.15pm last night.

Cathy Jamieson, Labour MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun, said: “I’m very pleased that the hard work that we put in, going round the doors literally street by street speaking to voters, means that we now have a clear decision from the voters in East Ayrshire that they want to remain part of the United Kingdom.

“I’ve argued a positive case, I wanted to see us remain part of the United Kingdom with stronger powers for the Scottish Parliament, and I think that’s what people locally wanted and it’s up to us now to deliver that.”
