Partick 1 Kilmarnock 1
Partick and Kilmarnock had to settle for a share of the spoils in an often niggly 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw at Firhill. Killie wide-man Tope Obadeyi opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a tap-in before defender Danny Seaborne headed in the equaliser with his first goal for the Jags since arriving in the summer after leaving Coventry. It was by comparison rather dull after the break with Jags keeper Paul Gallacher denying Obadeyi a second goal after Killie had fashioned the best chance of the second-half. The point probably meant more to the visitors who were trying to prevent equalling a club record of six successive defeats from 2010, although both managers will be asking questions about the goals conceded. Seaborne had missed the Jags' 1-0 defeat to Celtic in midweek but he was reinstated along with Christie Elliott for Aaron Muirhead and Gary Fraser, with only the latter on the bench. Killie showed three changes as Jamie Hamill, Darryl Westlake and Josh Magennis returned with Craig Slater and Alexei Eremenko among the substitutes and Ross Barbour suspended. The low temperature and driving wind and rain which enveloped Maryhill at kick-off might have dampened the enthusiasm of the crowd but a lively first half kept them entertained. The home side started slightly more aggressively but it was Killie who took the lead in the 11th minute with their first real threat to the Jags goal. Magennis' low cross from wide on the right was met by striker Lee Miller, whose close-range volley was well saved by Gallacher - but Obadeyi pounced on the loose ball to knock it into the empty net. Thistle took the blow on the chin and came back fighting and in the 19th minute, after Rugby Park defender Chris Chantler was booked for a foul on Partick's advancing right-back Stephen O'Donnell outside the box, the home side levelled. When midfielder Stuart Bannigan floated in the free-kick the unmarked Seaborne made the most of free header by bulleting the ball from eight yards past Rugby Park keeper Craig Samson. Thereafter a lively, fiercely-fought encounter swept from end to end with Thistle the more enterprising. Five minutes from the break Samson had to stretch to tip Bannigan's inswinging free-kick from the right sneaking under the bar before Killie defended a couple of corners in quick succession. At the other end, Killie skipper Manuel Pascali appeared to block an effort from fellow defender Mark Connelly, after Sammy Clingan had fired in a free-kick from the byline. Few would have argued with the half-time scoreline but after the break the foul count increased, to the detriment of the football. In the 55th minute Osman headed a Bannigan free-kick just over the bar when Samson came flying out of his goal rather unconvincingly. It all became a bit of a slog for both sides and for the supporters, whose frustration grew. There was no hint from either side that a winner was forthcoming although it was the Glasgow side doing most of the pressing. However, in the 77th minute Gallacher came to the Jags' rescue when he saved an angled drive from Obadeyi, who had muscled his way past O'Donnell after taking a Hamill pass. The Thistle supporters tried to rally their side in the closing stage and James Craigen had a low drive from inside the box deflected wide for a corner but a victory for either side would probably have been unfair.
