Hamilton boss Martain Canning calls for a more clinical finish after draw

Hamilton boss Martin Canning believes his side need to close out games more effectively after a late equaliser by Inverness.

The 1-1 draw with Caley Thistle put Hamilton up into ninth place, but Canning knows they need to get points on the board in case they have a dip in form.

Accies have already lost 14 points from winning positions in their opening eight matches and Liam Polworth's goal saw them pegged back at home for the second weekend running.

Canning said: ''It's a kick in the teeth again. Yet again we go 1-0 up through Alex D'Acol, we put ourselves in a good place, we were playing well and controlled pretty much all of the first half. The second half was a bit more to-and-fro, but I didn't see their equaliser coming, to be honest. I feel like I'm sitting here saying the same thing to you. It's frustrating, but from a positive point of view I thought we controlled a lot of the game, we were in their faces, we pressed the game really well, went 1-0 up again and we didn't do a lot wrong there. It's not as if it's the tactics, or somebody has switched off, and that has cost us a goal - the ball broke to the edge of the box, Liam Polworth strikes it and it ends up in the bottom corner. Sometimes when luck isn't on your side that's what happens.''

Canning added: ''Anybody who has watched our games would know we should be further ahead than what we are, and we should have more points on the table than we do, but the bottom line is that we don't. There's going to come a time when we're not playing so well, not going ahead in the game, and we're going to need to take our medicine at times. That means when you are playing well and dictating games you need to get points. One at a time isn't enough, we need to make sure we try and address it and get three points.''

Inverness boss Richie Foran said the draw gave his side a big point as it stretched their unbeaten run to five games.

''We're grinding out results,'' he said. ''Hamilton is a hard place to go to, as is Aberdeen and Celtic, and we got two good home wins as well, so I'm delighted with how it's going so far. It gives us a nice feeling going into the break and that was a big point. It's the spirit, the attitude and the never-say-die mentality that we have. That's three games in which we've scored late on, which is credit to the boys. We kept going whereas a weaker team, with weaker mentality, would have given up and thought it wasn't their day - but not the boys out there. On chances created I thought we deserved the point, because I thought we had the better chances. Their keeper pulled off a few good saves. We started well and had one cleared off the line, but on the overall performance Hamilton were the better side.''
