Canning finds positives during winless run

Hamilton player/boss Martin Canning insists there is no panic at New Douglas Park - even though he admits it is time his side got back to winning ways.

After starting the Premiership campaign with five victories from their first nine fixtures, Accies have now gone two months without a win.

But Canning has been largely satisfied with his team's efforts despite seeing them pick up just three draws in their last six games.

And the defender believes the character his men have displayed during that run will help them recover sooner rather than later.

Canning, who had to wait 14 games before he could celebrate his first win as boss last season, said: "It's about time we started to turn some of these results into three points. But when you look at it the performances have been good.

"Other than the St Johnstone game I can't criticise the boys. We lost to Celtic but played well, drew with Aberdeen when I felt we were unlucky and also lost to Hearts when it just came down to a couple of individual mistakes as opposed to a bad display.

"There are loads of positives to take. In the Dundee and Partick games we were losing 1-0 and down to 10 men but came back to get a point, so that shows we've got character. You do that if you're not in a good place mentally.

"I'm not doubting anybody's confidence. Everybody here is in full belief that we are having a good season and we are doing well. Right now we're going through a wee run (of poor results) but it's been a case of circumstances going against us.

"If we were not creating chances on top of a run of six games without a win I'd be saying it was time to start panicking. But that's not the case.

"We do need to get winning again but if we continue to play as we are, there's no doubt we will win more games than we will lose.''
