4 top spots for dog walking in Perth
Places to take your pooch
We all know that Perth has much to offer, especially if you enjoy being outdoors. Our four-legged friends are particularly at home in Perth for this very reason. We’ve picked a few of our favourite places to take our pooches. Perhaps there is a walk here which you haven’t tried?
From the beautiful Hermitage Woodland Walk which is a National Trust area, to the Kinnoull Hill and Deuchny Wood which are both a top destination choice for many walkers and their dogs.
Dunkeld Riverside
The Dunkeld Riverside walk is another gentle amble. It runs along the river, but from the cathedral you can opt for the woodland walk instead. Both options offer variety and are actually well-placed, within minutes of the main street. Dogs love both the waterside route as well as weaving through the trees in the woodland.
Loch Leven Trail
This is a very popular walk with local residents. If you do the full circular route, it is over 12 miles, so not really a quick jaunt. But you can do as much or as little as you want to.
Whichever length of walk you and your pup choose, there will be beautiful scenery to enjoy along the way.
It is a well-maintained route, and overall it is flat so an easy walk for all dogs. There are plenty of places to park nearby and when you get tired there are benches to rest and have a snack. The views across to Lochleven castle are simply stunning, so stop and take it all in.
Kinnoull Hill and Deuchny Wood
Kinnoull Hill and Deuchny Wood are a top destination choice for many walkers and dogs. This is partly due to the fact that it is in such a convenient location. You can get to Kinnoull Hill within five minutes' drive of Perth city centre, so it is a really practical option.
However, its appeal also has a lot to do with the myriad of trails to choose from, and the beautiful views they afford.
Kinnoull Hill itself is a steep climb, so not for the faint-hearted, but its well worth it for the view. Even if you don't make it right to the top, there is still spectacular scenery throughout.
There are plenty of places to stop for a picnic when you and your pup need a rest and keep an eye out for the tree trunk carvings of animals.
Hermitage Woodland Walk
The Hermitage Woodland Walk is a National Trust area and very popular all year round. It's nice and gentle, so easy for even the littlest pup. If you can make it to the Black Linn Falls, it’s just a lovely sight.
Your dog will love the woodland walks and riverside scampering, with the most popular walk being the Braan route.
