Zander Clark: St Johnstone must try and silence Rangers fans
Saints have recent experience of playing at Ibrox, having knocked Rangers out of last season's League Cup.
St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark believes blocking out the Rangers fans will be crucial when they go to Ibrox on Wednesday. Saints complete their first round of Premiership fixtures against the promoted side but they have recent experience of playing at Ibrox, having knocked Rangers out of last season's League Cup. Clark was on the bench that night but he played there three times for Queen of the South on loan two seasons ago, twice coming away with a draw. "I played there a couple of times with Queens and it's a great occasion, usually a full house as I imagine it will be again on Wednesday night,'' the 24-year-old said.
"It's great to go there and play. You know what to expect from them. You have to make sure you blank out the fans and just focus on the game plan.
"You need to try and silence them and get their fans frustrated. But we will focus on what we need to do and hopefully the result takes care of itself.''
Clark will take confidence from last year's 3-1 cup triumph, which ended Rangers' 11-match winning run.
"The game last year was a great performance so we need to look to try and recreate that performance that we had that night and hopefully the outcome is the same,'' he said.
Saints leapfrogged Rangers into fourth spot on Sunday thanks to a 2-1 victory over Dundee and Clark is determined to improve on that placing.
"The result on Sunday took us above them so it would be good to go there and get the win and create a wee bit of distance between the pack below us,'' he said.
"It's obviously been great finishing in the top six and we want to finish there again, but try to progress on where we finished last season. If we can do that then it will be another great season."
