Three months of strike action by Xplore Dundee staff begins from today (Monday).

The bus company has warned the walk outs will mean most services will run to a modified Sunday timetable - with services running every 30 to 60 minutes during the day on its core routes.

Some services, including Dundee and Fife school buses, will be suspended, the firm said, but some extra early morning journeys had been added for those travelling to work, including those to and from Ninewells Hospital.

Only the service to Edinburgh Airport is running as normal, with a bus every 90 minutes.

With both sides having said they are not willing to budge, locals could face a summer of chaos.

"Buses in Dundee are a lifeline"

SNP Maryfield Councillor, Lynne Short, has a message for Xplore Dundee.

She tells Tay FM "Please, this is Dundee, and not like any other place you operate out of.

"It's very important that we have a bus service that fits for the city as for many of us here, it is a lifeline".

Ms Short added "While there is concern about Xplore bus drivers and the impact it is having on them, it's also really important we have this service that fits with the people of the city.

"Throwback to the days of not being able to get anywhere..."

"Many of my constituents are older and it is just impossible for them to get from somewhere like Kerrsview Terrace up to Cleptington Road where they would catch the other buses.

"This is like the days when you weren't able to get anywhere".
