World's top riders to flock to Dundee for first Women's Tour of Scotland
The inaugural three day event will kick of in Slessor Gardens on 9 August before finishing in the capital
Some of the world's top cyclists will line up in Dundee's Slessor Gardens next month for the first ever Women's Tour of scotland.
The city of discovery will kick off the three stage event which finishes in the capital.
Organiser Darren Clayton said they didn't have to think hard about picking their starting point.
"Dundee's quite key for us because it hosted the Tour of Britain once about 20-years-ago.
"It's huge for us to be back here, Dundee was always on our radar."
The first stage will see the field cross the Tay Road Bridge before travelling 103km to finish in Dunfermline.
"Women's cycling generally has gone up a few gears recently," added Mr Clayton.
"The professionalism in cycling now has taken it to a new level. You will be pleasantly surprised at the speed the ride at."
The event starts on 9 August and will cover five different cities.
Angus cyclist Anna Fairweather will be a volunteer for the first stage.
"Hopefully seeing the women's tour in Dundee will make people realise that's something they could potentially do themselves," said Anna.
"It could be just for fun or even inspire them to racing in one of the events one day."
