An attempt to break a bungee jumping world record kicked off in Perthshire this morning.

Frenchman Francois-Marie Dibon took the first of many jumps just after 10am from the Garry bridge In Killiecrankie as he attempts to break the world record for the number of bungee jumps in 24-hours.

The record currently stands at 430 jumps and was set by New Zealander Mike Heard at Auckland Harbour bridge in 2017.

The attempt is being scrutinised by Guinness World Record judge Joanne Brent as the 44-year-old attempts to put his name in the record books.

The Parisian's attempt will finish at 10am on Wednesday and while he works to break the record he'll be assisted by a crew of 15 from Highland Fling Bungee working in four hours shifts.

Francios-Marie will take on food and fluids during the 24 hours, jumping through the night, and will break periodically for micro naps.

Before beginning his attempt he said: "Well, five and a half years ago when I came here the first time I did six jumps. Then, I came back two days latter and we did 30 in a day. One different jump each time, then I said, yeah let's get serious, let's try to do it for a full day. We have a brilliant team, great equipment so let's try it."

He added: "Well we've been training together with this team, with this equipment and this bridge for the last few years. With the pandemic its been difficult sometimes to travel and to do this activity so many years I would say. Myself at the gym I would say four years and here training more intensely since the beginning of the year."

Laurie ‘Loz’ Thomas, Jump Master and Operations Manager, said: “We have been talking about the record for some time now and we were looking for someone who could jump. Francois came here a few years ago, did about 30 jumps, and we thought: ‘who is this guy?’ We knew we had our man. He is a great person to work with. Hopefully, as a team, we can do this.”
