Woman thrown to the ground in Dundee handbag robbery

The 56-year-old suffered minor injuries after the incident in the Lochee area of the city.

A woman in Dundee had her handbag stolen after being pushed to the ground.

The incident happened in the Lochee area at around 6.30 on Friday evening.

The 56-year-old woman was followed by a man along South Road and as she approached Ross Gardens at its junction with Elmwood Road she was thrown to the ground.

Her cream coloured handbag was stolen and the man fled on foot back towards South Road before being lost from sight.

The woman suffered minor injuries during the robbery, but did not require medical attention.

The man is described as being aged in his thirties, 5ft 8ins tall, wearing a dark jumper with hooded top underneath the jumper.

The hood had lime green lines all over it in grid type pattern.

He was also wearing blue denim jeans.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lamont said: “We are appealing for any witnesses who may recognise the description of the person responsible or have any information regarding this crime to contact the police as a matter of urgency.

“I am specifically appealing for the witness in the electric wheelchair to come forward as they may have information that may be crucial to the enquiry.”
