The leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats will run the length of the Fife coastal path in just three days to in a bid to raise money for a Scottish mental health charity.
The North East Fife MSP will run 117-miles along the coast of his native Fife over the Easter Weekend, supporting the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).
The MSP said: “It’s 117 miles over three days, 40-odd miles a day but it will be worth it to raise lots and lots of money for SAMH.”
Willie Rennie plans to cover the same distance as four marathons during the course of the grueling three day challenge.
“I’ve done the training for it – I’ve done marathons, ultra-marathons and lots of hill training, so I hope I’m ready for it.”
Runners are hoping for a spell of clear weather to help them on their way:
“I’m just praying for no injuries, no colds and a decent bit of weather over the course of the weekend” said Mr. Rennie.
He added: “It’s going to be windy and wet – I hope it’s not going to be snowing.”
But Mr. Rennie is no stranger to this type of fundraising and has already raised more than £4,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).
“Mental health is something that’s really important to me. I’ve campaigned on it in politics and parliament.”
He continued: “I've seen the fantastic work they do for so many people across the country but they need more money to help more people."
"Across Scotland hundreds of vulnerable people are struggling to cope with issues including eating disorders, anxiety, depression and bullying. SAMH do absolutely vital work in supporting them.”
The test of stamina and endurance will see the MSP run along the coast from Kincardine to Newburgh.
