WATCH: Waiting times increase again for sexual violence victim support in Dundee and Angus
Survivors are now having to wait around two months longer than they were earlier in the year.
Waiting lists are getting even longer for survivors of sexual violence to receive support in Dundee and Angus.
It used to take seven months for victims to get help, but that number is now up to nine, and is expected to continue to rise if funding is not found.
The Dundee and Angus Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre needs to find £18,000 this year, just to cover basic running costs.
Manager, Sinead Daly is worried it could have a devastating impact on some of the area's most vulnerable:
"The women we work with have experienced post traumatic stress, they’ve experienced very high levels of trauma and are often coping alone with those experiences. There are also high levels of shame attached to that.
“If you're coming through the door, you've made the decision to come for support and worked yourself up to do that and then your told "Well actually, our waiting list is about nine months". That can be quite a devastating thing.
“The earlier we can get in the less long term physiological, mental and physical health damage is caused.
“My fears are can I keep the staff I have, can I pay the rent.... We're looking at doing a massive fundraising drive and to try and get the community involved in helping us and at the moment, we're facing a significant deficit this year".
