WATCH: Angus pupils perform Star Wars theme for May the 4th
Strings pupils from the Arbroath area have come together virtually, to perform the iconic theme from the sci-fi franchise
On May the 4th, known as Star Wars Day (May the Fourth Be With You...) over 80 young strings pupils from the Arbroath area have come together virtually, to perform the iconic theme from the sci-fi franchise.
Children from Arbroath High, Arbirlot Primary, Carmyllie Primary, Inverbrothock Primary, Ladyloan Primary, Muirfield Primary and Timmergreens Primary have been working hard to learn the Star Wars theme music in time for Star Wars Day, and have released their own virtual performance movie.
Strings instructor from Angus council Heather Miranda, (who can be spotted as Princess Leia in the video) helped bring the string pupils together in the virtual performance, playing violins, violas and cellos.
She told us: "I thought it would be really good fun for them to have little lightsaber bows with attached glow sticks and LED lights to the bows to make them appear to be lightsabers"
"I just wanted to create a virtual performance that would include everyone right from our little beginners in Primary 4 right through to our senior players."
Due to covid restrictions, the pupils have been unable to meet in-person to perform, so Heather came up with a virtual performance to bring them together virtually.
"We took a, sort-of, virtual recording studio from school to school, before editing it all together to make it look like they were in outer space with little twinkly stars behind them."
And Heather says the pupils really enjoyed the experience.
"They've certainly been motivated to do extra practice, I've heard of kids getting up early in the morning to do extra practice and then going to bed a bit later to do extra practice."
