There's a warning some disabled and older people across Scotland are being prevented from getting out because of a lack of public toilets.

Figures obtained by a Freedom of Information request by the Scottish Liberal Democrats show there are none left and South Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire.

Former leader of the party Willie Rennie said: "Over the last 17 years of the SNP Government being in charge, we have lost more than a quarter of local toilets.

"Councils are only doing what they are legally required to do and this is not on the list but we know they are vital for tourism."

Eighteen local authorities provided data for the number of local toilets in 2007 and 2024 and it shows there are none left in Clackmannanshire, East Dunbartonshire, Falkirk and South Lanarkshire.

Willie Rennie added: "Some councils are being creative by working with local businesses to use their facilities for members of the public to spend that penny.

"It's important that we have a proper strategy across the country so that we can have conveniences for everyone."
