Utd sign Ivory Coast midfielder
Mixu Paatelainen makes his 2nd signing.
Dundee United have signed former West Ham and Borussia Dortmund player Guy Demel.
The powerful 34-year-old has signed until the end of the season and has been brought in as a defensive midfielder.
The French-born player played more than 80 times in four seasons with West Ham before leaving earlier this year and previously played for Hamburg following a spell in the Arsenal youth ranks, from where he moved to Dortmund.
Demel has 35 caps for the Ivory Coast and joins Gavin Gunning in signing for United since Mixu Paatelainen came in as head coach.
Paatelainen told his club's official website: Guy comes with a lot experience and fantastic pedigree. He can add a lot to our squad. He is a powerful player but above all a good footballer.
He will be a strong character in our dressing room and I am delighted to start working with him.''
Demel said: Once I spoke to the head coach, I was excited by the challenge of Dundee United and the role he has planned for me. I want to identify myself with the club.
I have many years of experience in football and if I can use my knowledge to help the younger players here that is what I will do. I have been training hard and I can't wait to play for Dundee United. I am ready as soon as the head coach needs me.''
Demel could make his debut for the Ladbrokes Premiership bottom club when they host Hamilton on Saturday.
